08/29/2008 - Rieter plans to discontinue automotive component production in Bebra

In the context of the restructuring program to increase profitability and adjust manufacturing capacity that has already been announced, Rieter intends to close the automotive components plant in Bebra (Germany) at the end of 2010.

In the light of expiring supply contracts and in order to improve profitability at the Automotive Division, the Rieter Group has announced its intention – after examining various alternatives – of closing the Bebra plant in stages by the end of 2010. Rieter has informed the works council and the 75 employees affected and will immediately commence negotiations with employee representatives and consultations with the relevant authorities.

The Rieter Group operates internationally, developing and producing sophisticated systems solutions for the textile and automotive industries. Rieter generated sales of 3930 million CHF with some 15000 employees worldwide in the 2007 financial year. The Textile Systems Division accounted for 1567 million CHF, the Automotive Systems Division for 2363 million CHF of this total. 6300 of the Automotive Division’s total workforce of 9800 in the past financial year were employed in Europe.
