Tips for a Successful Application

To apply is to advertise yourself. There is no second opportunity to make the first impression. Your cover letter and resume are the advertisement for your application. Arouse our curiosity with well-structured, concise application documents. Motivate us to invite you to an interview to get to know you better.

We have put together some tips for a successful application.

A good application usually includes the following documents:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Photo (optional)
  • Employment references and certificates
  • Proof of educational achievements

Please ensure that your application documents comply with the usual standards:

  • Check your cover letter and resume for wording, grammar and spelling mistakes. Read the documents out loud. This will alert you to mistakes and inconsistencies.
  • Use a common format and an easy to read font.
  • Make sure the documents are valid and of good quality, sort them chronologically; the most recent should be at the top.
  • Prepare the cover letter and resume in the language of the job advertisement.
  • For online and e-mail applications, only attach files that can be opened on any standard computer. The PDF format is suitable for text documents; use the JPG and PNG formats for image files. Attachments should not be larger than 5 MB in total.

Compelling Cover Letter

The cover letter is the first thing we read from you. Use this to convince us why you are the ideal candidate for the job. This will give us a first impression of you as an individual and what motivates you. The cover letter should complement the most important points in your resume and not merely repeat them. Check the job advertisement for what we are looking for and answer the following questions:

  • Why are you interested in the job?
  • What qualifies you for this position?
  • Why should we hire you?

Please note that we receive many applications. Be specific in your language and limit yourself to two or three paragraphs.

Concise Resume

The purpose of your resume should be to quickly make a good first impression. Content and style vary from country to country. In general, we recommend the following:

  • Use your resume to give us an overview of why you are the right person for the job.
  • Be precise and focus on relevant information.
  • Choose a tabular presentation with sections for personal details and contact information, work experience, skills, training and qualifications as well as personal interests and references.
  • Begin with your most recent activity. Summarize your role and responsibilities in one or two sentences. Use bullets to highlight the specific details that are important for the position you are applying for. Restrict yourself to a few significant points.
  • Try to limit your resume to one or two pages.
  • Avoid gaps in your resume or provide an explanation for these gaps.

Job Interview

Your letter of application has convinced us. In the job interview, we would like to get to know you personally and learn more about your career and the reasons for your application. It gives you the opportunity to get a picture of Rieter and find out more about the job.

Prepare Yourself

Preparing well gives you self-assurance. Find out about Rieter and the job you are applying for. Prepare yourself for possible questions about your resume and your personality. Good preparation also requires that you inform yourself in good time about the nature of the interview, the contact person at Rieter, and about the date, time and location as well as access and parking.

Be Open, Proactive and Honest

We encourage you to take an active role in the interview. Introduce yourself and convince us by your suitable appearance, qualifications and knowledge. Emphasize again why you applied to Rieter and the skills and experience that make you the right candidate for the job. Show real interest in Rieter by asking questions about our company, customers, strategy, values and field of activity.

It is normal for you to be nervous, as your interviewers know. Stay calm, speak clearly and articulately. Avoid exaggerated gestures and maintain eye contact with your interlocutors. Pay attention to your posture. Stay authentic. With your coherent appearance, you emphasize that you are ideally suited for the job. This includes punctuality and clothing that is appropriate for the job.

Be Punctual and Professional

Arrive five to ten minutes before the appointment. If you are late, please call your contact person in advance and explain why you have been delayed.

Social Media Activities

Are you active on social media? Do you share information about your life and your personality? This can benefit your job search, but it may also have disadvantages. Our tip: Use these platforms to market yourself in a targeted manner. Thanks to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook etc., you can attract the attention of potential employers and contacts.
