03/17/2015 - Positive Patent Decision for Rieter in China

Continuous innovation to increase customer benefits is a core task of Rieter. This also includes product protection. Innovation and the fight against patent infringements is also an important strategic objective of the Chinese government. Recently, Rieter won the appeal process relating to its Com4 innovation in China.

Only original technology components from Rieter secure the machine performance and yarn quality.

Rieter makes every effort to ensure that spinning companies experience the most trouble-free and economic production possible. As a rule, copies of Rieter products have an inferior resistance to wear, which leads to higher costs than with original products. Even more damaging for the customers are the low quality or machine failures through unwanted downtimes resulting from the inferior copies. This substantially diminishes the success of the customers. To prevent this, Rieter protects its products with patents and takes legal action against copying.

Rieter first detected patent infringements of its Com4 compact spinning technology for compact spinning in China in 2012. The Chinese ring spinning machine manufacturer, Tonghe, installed components copied from Cixi Jingwei, for which Rieter holds a patent.

A Chinese court has now decided in the appeal process, that Cixi Jingwei must immediately stop production and sale of the copies. As a consequence, the company has been ordered to pay compensation. In addition, with immediate effect, Tonghe may no longer install the Com4 components.
