Duo or tandem cards

As the name implies, tandem cards consist of two individual cards joined together to make up a unit, in which the doffer of the first card feeds fiber material to the  licker-in of the second card. Double carding of the raw material has a positive effect on quality and on  blending. However, these advantages are purchased at the cost of expense in hardware and maintenance, and additional space is required. Modern cards of the latest generation give the same and better quality as tandem cards. Therefore tandem cards are not necessary and are no longer available (Fig. 90).
